Abstract

ZigBee is a wireless communication protocol which finds application in home-automation environment monitoring, smart metering and industrial automation etc. Here wireless sensor network and ZigBee are utilized for smart home-automation. The proposed system monitors the electrical parameters e.g. voltage, current and power consumption. The novelty of this system is the implementation of a mechanism to control the appliances using a sensor network on ZigBee. The developed system is a low-cost, compact, and flexible in operation. Further it will help in reducing carbon footprint as it will allow the appliances to work only when desired and thus can save electricity expenses of the consumers. The prototype has been extensively tested in real-life situations and experimental results are very promising.
