Abstract

Guided by an own observation this report gives a short review of pathogenesis and clinical features of dracontiasis. The disease, which is caused by a nematode, Dracunculus medinensis, is characterized by urticarial reactions and formation of an epidermal blister. Therapy of choice is the surgical extraction of the worm, which is facilitated by simultaneous treatment with anthelmintic agents.
