Five specimens of the bilagai (Cheilodactylus variegatus), captured in Metri Bay are shown as evidence of new southern record, with a range extension of about 150 km southward the former limit known in Valdivia (ca. 40°S). A short discussion on the extent of this finding is given, together with data on other Chilean fishes of the family Cheilodactylidae.
