Abstract

Trauma and unintentional injury continue to plague all facets of modern society. Because of this, emergency medical service systems have improved progressively in design, training, and technology. Such issues as patient stabilization at the scene versus rapid transportation, intravenous fluid therapy, and various aspects of trauma triage, however, remain controversial. Victims who sustain acute injury will continue to have improved chances for survival when sound prehospital medical technique and rapid transportation are practiced in the field.
