Abstract

Species diversity, evenness and richness and breeding population densities are tabulated for communities including 30 species of birds in (a) thinned, (b) severely thinned, (c) shelterwood and (d) clear-felled plots in Arizona. Species diversity and richness were unaffected by thinning and logging except in the clear-felled plot, where they were reduced. Population densities increased on plots (a) and (c) and decreased on plots (b) and (d). Management guidelines for maintaining or increasing bird populations are given. [See also next 3 abstracts]
