The goal of this paper is to systematize CIM-laboratories with a detailed description of a real CIM-factory which realises the solving proposals of model factories. In the first half of the paper we explain the importance of CIM for small- and medium-sized companies. In order to support these kinds of companies in the development of CIM-systems research institutes and universities have built model factories and simulation models to present their theoretical knowledge in a practical way. Because these model factories do not provide on appropriate CIM-solutions for small- and medium-sized companies we developed INCOSOPT (Integrated Company Software), which is a special solution for small sized companies. The second half of the paper is devoted to the description of the components of 1NCOSOFT, the hard- and software-requirements, some implementation aspects and the differences between the software systems of small- and medium-sized companies and and those of large scale industry. Programming was done in a 4 th generation language, data administration is handled by a relational database. The CIM-software runs on a PC-LAN with a central file server and a database server. INCOSOFF fulfils the special requirements of small- and medium-sized companies and integrates standard software with non-standard-software. Therefore INCOSOPT pays attention to the low financial power of small- and medium-sized companies.
