Abstract

Thin-film transistors (TFTs) based on conjugated organic semiconductors can usually be manufactured at temperatures below about 100 °C and thus on flexible polymeric substrates. Organic TFTs are therefore a potential alternative to hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H), polysilicon, and metal oxide TFTs for flexible active-matrix displays. This chapter provides a brief overview of some important aspects of organic TFTs based on vacuum-deposited small-molecule semiconductors, such as pentacene.
