Abstract

A strongmo tive to build Problem Solving Environments (PSE’s) is the ability to interactively steer computations. We analyse the requirements that steeringputs on the architecture of such a PSE and propose a design that does not separate the development and execution parts of the PSE. We describe a prototype implementation of this design based on the standardized software infrastructure of Java Beans and CORBA that enables a high degree of steering.
