Abstract

Three types of embedded computing devices were introduced in Chapter 8: application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), and general programmable processors (GPPs). FPGAs and GPPs are user configurable/programmable commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products. ASICs are custom-fabricated for specific functions in particular applications.
