We present several examples of key landscape-ecology processes operating in forest and stream systems of the Pacific Northwest before and after the conversion from wildland to managed forest land. We do not offer a general model for these landscapes, but instead examine some of the elements that might go into such a model. We discuss in particular the relation among forest and flowing-water ecosystems, disturbances, and geomorphology. Geomorphology concerns both landforms and the geomorphic processes that sculpt them.
