In May 2016 the United States DoD researchers announced the development of an ADC that processes data at a rate of 60 GHz, fast enough to ensure the potentially uninterrupted operation of spectrum-dependent military systems, including communications, EW signals and radar, also in contested and congested EM environments, to offer situational awareness of the RF spectrum. The amount of data generated reaches nearly a terabyte per second, a data rate so high it requires on-chip data-management circuitry.
