Personal Communication Services (PCS) are the fastest growing area in wireless technology. This technology requires the location, in the community, of new equipment for receiving and sending messages on radio frequencies. In order that PCS can have the fullest coverage they must have good relations with local governments, in order to place cell sites where there is demand. Because of their obtrusive nature there has been some resistance to the proliferation of cell sites in public spaces. Solutions to this problem, including the option of co-location, are discussed for the US and increased cooperation between local governments and PCS suppliers is encouraged.
