Abstract

This article presents the integration of a system of detection and identification of RFID tags in a social robot, with the goal of improving its sensorial system and to accomplish several specific tasks, such as: recognition of objects or navigation. For this purpose, basic skills of reading and writing have been designed, following the pattern of the basic element skill of the robot software architecture. The system has been implemented physically adding two RFID interrogators with built-in antenna to the sensorial robot system. The application has been implemented and tested as a skill in the detection of products such as medicines and diverse objects in order to assist visually impaired people, users of the third age and people who cannot read. © 2009 Springer-Verlag.
