In this book, Linda Nazareth explains how the time crunch economy that has dominated in the last three decades will slowly evolve into a leisure economy in Canada and the United States. Through a thorough examination of economic, cultural, technological, and demographic changes, Nazareth illustrates how both Americans and Canadians have juggled work and leisure, and by extension, money and time. Nazareth uses sources as varied as popular press, novels, interviews, academic research, and governmental studies to support her theory. The author is an "expert in demographics," and as such, it is not surprising that the majority of the book focuses on how changing demographics have affected the leisure economy. Nazareth provides an in-depth analysis of what volunteerism means for the different generations and what factors determine whether people volunteer. The author presents the information in an engaging tone that makes what could be a boring topic interesting.
