Gamelan is an indigenous traditional percussion orchestra from Indonesia, mainly made up of tuned metal and wood instruments performed by twenty to forty musicians. Recent studies show rapidly declining interest for Gamelan music. To address this problem and to preserve this cultural heritage, we propose I-BASA, an IoT and Edge cloud based platform that offers to the public easier access and deeper engagement with Gamelan music. I-Basa is designed to provide an interactive and communal medium for people to explore and compose Gamelan music together. In this paper, we describe how I-BASA is designed, developed, and implemented utilizing insights and techniques from different studies in computer science, education, and music.
