Abstract

Cupuaçu [Theobroma grandiflorum (Willd. ex Spreng.) Schum.] crops on the highway BR 319 km57, in Careiro, Amazonas State and on the highway BR 364 km 150, in Nova California, Rondonia State were evaluated with respect to infestation of fruits by Conotrachelus humeropictus Field (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). Yield losses in crops from 1993 to 1997 showed that the insect which infested fruits, had a higher impact than the common fungus disease Crinipellis perniciosa (Stahel) Singer. The percentage of infested fruits by C. humeropictus was higher than the percentage of healthy fruits, the greatest loss (57.7%) observed in the 1995/96 season.
