Introduction

Abstract

The food and drink industry is a major sector in the world economy. The worldwide turnover of the industry in 2012 amounted more than 2,700 billion (Europe 2014), which represents a 2.7% of world GDP. The main actors in the industry are the European Union, United States of America and China, roughly accounting for 69% of the total, being followed by Japan, Brazil, Mexico, Russia and Australia (Europe 2014).
