Abstract

In the treatment of the exhausted etching baths of metallic plastics industries, electrochemical reactors filter press type, at a pilot scale are used for the recovery of hexavalent chromium, through the oxidation of trivalent chromium on an lead anode. This research focused on the study of a reactor having three separate compartments, in order to study their behavior when operating in galvanostatic mode, at 4 and 8 A, with real etching bath solutions. The following basic parameters for the design of electrochemical reactors were evaluated: electrical performance, the degree of reached conversion, the specific productivity and specific energy consumed by coupling the electrochemical reactor with one and two ceramic spacers, elaborated with 250 kg/cm2 and 0% of starch content, resulting in a reactor with adequate performance for which there is less operation time assigned, good productivity and low power consumption when operating at 8 A.
