Abstract

In India, the number of road accidents and deaths caused by fog and mist has steadily increased over the years. Visibility is greatly reduced due to the dense fog. Also at a blind curve, approaching vehicles tend to collide with each other due to lack of visibility over the other vehicles. Such condition increases the demand for widespread availability of different information and communication technologies over road networks to avoid vehicle accident. In this paper, we have proposed a system based on integration of various modules such as RF transmitter and receiver pair, temperature and humidity sensor, ultrasonic distance sensor of long range, ATmega microcontroller, etc., to avoid collision of vehicles due to fog and blind curve. The purpose of the system is to buzz an alarm in blind curves when vehicles approach each other and alert the driver in case of fog. A sensor set, a management unit and a monitoring platform is included in this system.
