Abstract

The cerebellum forms the tectum of the medulla and pons. It lies in the posterior cranial fossa under the tentorium of the dura. It is a layered cortical region and projects onto subcortical nuclei that, in turn, project onto the brain stem, spinal cord, and dien-cephalon. It functions as an unconscious center for coordination of motor movements. It is commonly affected by drugs and vascular and other pathological lesions.
