Orthopedic procedures

Abstract

A wide variety of surgical procedures may be employed to treat pediatric orthopedic problems. This chapter presents some of the more common procedures, focusing on those involving the spine, lower extremities, and foot. The procedures address issues of alignment (e.g., scoliosis, extremity angulation or asymmetry, and foot deformities), correct sequelae of hip disorders by redirecting the femoral head or by increasing acetabular coverage, or compensate for-or take advantage of-the potential for continued skeletal growth.
