Abstract

Three-dimensional turbulent flow calculation of the flow in Francis turbine in sandy river was conducted by using body-fitted coordinates, tetrahedral grid system and SIMPLE algorithm based on the solid-liquid two-phase flow equation of motion in Eulerian coordinate system. The flow mechanism of sandy water in the turbine was analyzed through numerical simulation of flow in the turbine in several different sand water concentrations. In sandy water with various concentrations, the erosion area of turbine are basically concentrated at the lateral wall of the whole flow passage and the heads of guide vanes and blades. © 2013 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
