Abstract

The extraction of teeth is a common therapeutic procedure performed for a variety reasons, including dental caries, odontogenic pathosis, trauma, or for orthodontic treatment. A detailed clinical examination and proper radiological studies help to determine how the extraction should be approached. Proper technique will optimize outcome and minimize complications. For those practitioners who will perform exodontias as part of their clinical responsibilities, it is paramount to have a sound working knowledge of dental anatomy and the basic principles of oral surgery.
