The results of this survey indicate that both clinical and subclinical protein energy malnutrition exists in the Wabo and Ihu areas and that over 10% of the population may have been suffering from deficiencies of vitamin A and riboflavin. Questioning of mothers revealed high infant and toddler mortality rates and anaemia was found to be widespread. While it is accepted that the food recall method of assessing food intake is somewhat crude, all available indicators suggested that food intakes were, by any standards, inadequate. -from Author
