Abstract

This paper proposes the replacement of the EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) technology, used in ports for information exchange between ports and ships, by more effective, flexible and open alternative. The proposal is motivated to design a negotiation protocol based on EbXML (Electronic Business using eXtensible Markup Language) to reduce interaction among actors in uses cases flows of the system. The methodology was based on system analysis techniques and documents of the port of Santos (Brazil). The results were validated using uses cases flows by reducing the number of interactions among the different entities or actors of the system. As conclusion, the study confirms that the substitution of technology is feasible and can be applied to other port information systems with the advantage of optimizing port processes.
