(from the chapter) This chapter focuses on diagnostic interviewing procedures for a tertiary evaluation format designed for clinically distressed couples, using a cognitive-behavioral theoretical orientation. The chapter outlines a behavioral-systems framework for evaluating couple dysfunction called "The Seven Cs": Character features, Cultural and ethnic factors, Contract, Commitment, Caring, Communication, and Conflict Resolution. The chapter outlines assessment procedures for "The Seven Cs" and a comprehensive interview format that has been developed and modified in many behavioral couple therapy settings over three decades. A case example illustrates the diagnostic interviewing process with marital dyads. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved).
