Introduction: Acute heart failure is defined as the rapid onset of symptoms suggestive of ventricular dysfunction or significant changes of these in a patient previously diagnosed with the disease, which usually requires urgent attention and hospital management. Methodology: We followed the steps defined in the Methodological Guide for the Preparation of Clinical Practice Guidelines and Economic Evaluation in the General System of Social Security of the Colombian Health Ministry of Health and Social Protection, to develop the clinical practice guideline based on evidence (GPC). Results: In this issue we present the recommendations to treat acute heart failure. Conclusion: The goals in the treatment of acute heart failure are directed to rapid compensation of the patient to subsequently introduce therapies that have proven to change morbidity and mortality in the long term.
