Abstract

There are very few dedicated neurosurgical departments in the country, and as such, referrals from a wide geographical area are common. Initial management, therefore, of such emergencies is often done in general hospitals, often under the care of general surgical or trauma and orthopedic specialties, which may not have any specialist knowledge of neurosurgical conditions. These facts may result in below optimum care for patients who are at risk of life-threatening conditions.
