Abstract

Graptophyllumpictum (L.) Griff is one of the medicinal plants which have pharmacological activity as an antidiabetic, antioxidant and estrogenic. To view the safety of Graptophyllum pictum, has been done research on the teratogenic effect of test extract Graptophyllum pictum against white mice. Animal tests that have been pregnant were given wungu extract orally on day 6 to day 15 of pregnancy with doses used were 50, 150 and 450 mg /kg. On day 18 of pregnancy, mices were killed by cervical dislocation, then did laparaktomi to remove the fetus. The result showed wungu extract at used doses did not affect the parent body weight of mice significantly. Macroscopic observations showed resorption sites, retarded growth fetuses and cleft palate were found on fetus. However, the teratogenic potential of wungu extract could not be ascertained because of the vulnerability of the species.
