Abstract

In this paper, a reconfigurable square patch microstrip antenna has been designed. The proposed antenna consists of a slot and two metal strips for switching operation. In today’s scenario where technology is merging, reconfigurable antennas for 3G and 4G technologies are needed. Particularly the proposed design is unique and attractive since it supports the third generation and fourth generation technologies for mobile phones where multiband operation is essentially required. The presented antenna operates in the ranges 2.25–3 GHz without metal strips (OFF-OFF state) and 1.96–2.76 GHz with metal strips (ON-ON state). Characteristics parameter such as return loss-S11 and radiation pattern are analysed using HFSS 13.0.
