Abstract

Drought affects maize crop differently at different growth stages. The public and private sectors are working for improvement of maize against drought stress. Public sectors in developing countries are more lacking in resources than the private sector. There are numerous multinational seed companies that are working on the improvement of maize against drought stress. CGIAR is running different projects through CIMMYT for improvement of maize in drought affected regions of the world, especially Africa and Asia. The role of the public and private sectors for the improvement of drought tolerance in maize and achievement so far are discussed here.
