The book proposal is a document that enables a publisher to make decisions about whether or not to publish a book. A proposal can also be a useful tool when planning the writing and structure of a book. Consequently, the importance of a well-written, professional book proposal cannot be underestimated. In this chapter, we describe the essential elements of a book proposal. We also discuss how to choose a publisher and what to do when the book proposal is accepted. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2010.
