Abstract

Products with strong cognitive and emotional appeal are powerful on the market. However, the design environment in Korean Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) is challenging. Non-design experts are often involved in design projects. Therefore, it is essential to have a design support system for better managing and controlling design quality and outcomes. The researchers developed C&A KIT that helps the practitioners in the SMEs to design products with better cognitive and emotional appeal. C&A KIT is a design support system based on thirteen cognitive and emotional databases. This study focuses on the data hierarchy and visualization of visual tool-kit and tactile tool-kit. The authors selected air purifier as an archetype of products with growing need and design role. Five design components were selected based on interviews and mapped out corresponding to the collected data. The results showed that the C&A KIT is of potential benefit for both subject matter experts and research institutions to actively exchange knowledge with enterprises and support in the process.
