Abstract

In many mountainous regions, deforestation, land degradation, unregulated water flows and subsistence orientation of farming are major development challenges to improve sustainable livelihood of mountain farming families. There are many reasons for these developments. The most prominent once are increasing population density, inadequate use of natural resources in the process of increasing scarcity of resources and the lacking of proper infrastructure and efficient transportation systems to connect people to markets, educational centers, health institutions and modern knowledge systems.
