Abstract

Spermacoce hispida Linn is one of the important plant belonging to the family of Rubiaceae and is commonly used herb in siddha medicine. This review supports all updated information on its chemical constituents, pharmacological activities, traditional uses and scientific approach. The plant extracts contains phytochemical constituents such as of saponins, tannins, phenolics, steroids, essential oils, flavonoids and terpenoids. The chemical entities of this plant have been used as an antidiabetic, anti-hypertensive, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antihyperlipidaemic, analgesic, antifungal, anticancer and antioxidant properties. This review is studied for the further development of various formulations for their traditional use and pharmacological activities. © 2010 IJRAP.
