Generally the term “Temperament” is used to denote all the native qualities, and “Charcter” is said to be a united organization produced from the native factors and environments. But from our daily observations on school children we find difficulty in discriminating how far the will temperament goes and how far the character does. Therefore it is proper to deal wih them as one thing under Will-Temperament. If we deny this thinking it means we would deny the character training or character education. From the stand point of that Will-Temperament is effected and changed by the outer forces, I studied the analysis of Will-Temperament from its factors by testing the children aged from 10 to 14 years old, for 5 years and here is the result. (1) In the younger stages the factor showing thinking is dominating while the speed of movement, speed of decision are comparatively negative. From 12 to 14 years old it is very difficult to know what factors are dominating in Will-Temperament. It depends on the further studies to make this point clear. (2) From the view of classification there are very few cases when the same type is kept on to the end. Each individual shows a different type, and they are very complicated. (3) There are many cases of the change of stages (±0~± 3), therefore the change of Will-Temperament is done in a small range; and the accumulation of the changes forms some parts of the character and temperament. © 1969, The Japanese Association of Educational Psychology.
