Abstract

The dissolution behavior of different types of reduction grade alumina in melts based on cryolite, i. e. , apparent dissolution rates, crust formation and agglomeration, was studied on a laboratory scale. The dissolution characteristics depend on the degree of calcination of the oxides. The differences are related to the microsopic and bulk physical properties of the aluminas.
