Abstract

Mastocytosis is a wide-spectrum neoplasm that originates from bone marrow-derived progenitor cells. Mast cells are responsible for the allergic response. Therefore, the increase of mast cells can be seen in many reactive situations. It is important for pathologists to have information on the neoplastic diseases of mast cells and their mimics. Kit mutation analyzes also play an important role in the differential diagnosis by making discrimination of reactive changes and neoplastic subtypes. In this review, the current classification, algorithm for diagnosis, and finally treatment options of mastocytosis are discussed.
