Diatom and foraminiferal analyses of the Pleistocene turbidites in the Cascadia margin suggest that turbidite sediments originated mainly in the landward shelf area and were displaced to the pres- ent deep-sea site, which maintained a constant depth during this time. Abundant and highly fluctuating occurrences of shallow- marine and nonmarine diatoms may reflect the global glacioeus- tatic sea level changes in the Pleistocene.
