Abstract

This paper addresses the improvement of power quality using distribution Static Compensator in radial distribution systems. The major factors to improve the quality of power are voltage profile improvement and total loss reduction of the system. Compensation of reactive power decreases the total power loss of the distribution systems. The main objective of this work is to reduce the total loss of the radial distribution system with voltage profile improvement. Particle Swarm Optimization technique has been used in this work for the placement and sizing of DSTATCOM in radial distribution systems. Also, the test results are compared with the results obtained from the analytical method. The proficiency and significance of the proposed work have been instigated on 12, 34 and 69 bus radial distribution system consisting of 11, 33 and 68 sections respectively.
