Abstract

Hormonal factors which are the dominant factors causing premenstrual syndrome are increased estrogen levels. The source of estrogen itself is body fat. This research was conducted to determine the relationship of cholesterol levels with Pre Menstrual Syndrome in SMP 26 Malang City. The design of this study was correlation analytic with cross sectional approach, population of 152 respondents, with a sample of 33 respondents, the sampling technique used was proportionate random sampling. The instrument used a Shortened premenstrual assessment form (sPAF) questionnaire, data were analyzed by Pearson product moment test. The results showed, respondents with normal cholesterol levels experienced Pre Menstrual syndrome with mild degrees of 48.5% while respondents with high cholesterol levels experienced Pre Menstrual syndrome with moderate to severe degrees of 12.1%. Pearson product moment test results show that p value <0.05, which means there is a relationship between cholesterol levels with Pre Menstrual Syndrome. Further research can be done to determine cholesterol fluctuations at the time of PMS signs. Keywords: Cholesterol Level, Pre Menstrual Syndrome
