Abstract

Within Alcatel the idea of developing complete rural telecommunication systems started to materialize with the objective of minimizing costs while ensuring that the installed network meets operational requirements in terms of service, quality, reliability, and ease of operation and maintenance. Alcatel's global approach is based on a number of major subsystems: rural digital switches low capacity microwave links thin route earth stations radio multi access systems.
