The announcement of the unusually rapid transport of ions in materials with the beta alumina crystal structure [1,2], and the invention of the Na/NaxS battery based upon the use of that material as a solid electrolyte [3] initiated a lot of research aimed at understanding of fast ionic transport in solids. There were also efforts in many laboratories to find other materials that also had this kind of behavior.
