Correction of post-laminectomy kyphosis and cervical deformity

Abstract

Post-laminectomy kyphosis and cervical deformity can present unique challenges to both patients and surgeons. Patients may present with significant pain, neurologic symptoms, and functional impairment. These, as well as multiple other clinical and radiographic factors, must be considered before operative intervention, including flexibility of curve, severity of deformity, goals of intervention, prior surgeries, and bone quality. Surgical planning involves decisions about direction of approach, areas of compression and deformity that need to be addressed, and whether or not osteotomies are required to achieve optimal, safe surgical correction.
