Abstract

The hospitality industry is the largest business worldwide with an increasing market. The energy used in this industry produces a considerable amount of greenhouse gas emissions. Further improvements are required to address climate change requirements despite various existing technologies for saving energy and water in hotels. Providing more energy saving options can encourage hoteliers to perform further suitability measures. There is a special requirement of methods for energy saving that suits for small and medium size hotels. This paper introduces a sustainable energy saving method for hotels that uses active engagement of the guests in energy saving process. The proposed method provides the guests a direct benefit from the saved energy. The paper presents a novel concept of green hotel deals is provide an initial design for the system. The sustainability analysis of the proposed method shows that the method is able to benefit guests, hoteliers, governments and importantly the environment. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.
