Abstract

The results obtained indicate that the proposed new synthetic route to prepare cellulosic graft copolymers has the potential to overcome some of the problems facing cellulose graft polymerization. Since the synthetic polymer to be grafted is prepared by anionic polymerization techniques, one can effectively control the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of the graft side chain. By using modified cellulose derivatives which are soluble in some organic solvents like THF, the grafting reaction can be done under homogeneous conditions. Better control and reproducibility of the grafting process can be achieved.
