Abstract

We should not be surprised at the great significance of Technology during the prehistoric period in Greece; or indeed in any other part of the world of those times: Technology was already possessed by several animals; it was a natural supplement to Nature, so to say. By analogy, it was, therefore, all too obvious for humans to consider that Technology was “donated” to them by the gods. In other words, it was expected that humans were admiring Technology as much as a fundamental means for their survival and their well-being, that have attributed it to a religious Heaven. This general attitude of humankind being observed, I will maintain that the level of technological development of the Greeks during the second millennium BCE, was expectedly high. The aim of this paper is to summarize the main technical achievements of that period in Mycenaean Greece. To this end, I will first take that the writings of Hesiod and Homer are reflecting, to a certain extent, facts and beliefs during the Mycenaean period as well.
