Abstract

The mechanics of breathing and responses of the respiratory system to CO2during patients with cerebrovuscular disease consisted of noncornphunt lungs and high levels of elastic ventilation to CO2in the two groups. Unlike normal subjects, the patients did not increase their flow. and the ventilatory response to CO2, consequently, became less than in the normal subjects. This failure to maintain tidal volume and minute ventilation while brithing through an external resistance may account for some instances for respiratory deterioration among patients with cerebrovascular diseas. © 1974 American Heart Association, Inc.
