Abstract

Underwater sound radiation of ships is always an interesting topic, meanwhile not only for naval applications. The estimation of a ship's source level has some difficult aspects. But such a description is necessary for further considerations, e.g. prediction of radiated sound, definitions of suitable noise levels or noise reduction measures. In order to improve the physical understanding and numerical modelling, a series of ship's noise measurements was done in 2011 on the basis of a co-operation of several NATO nations. The presentation will focus on one part of these trials, the radiated sound measurements of RV "Planet" in blue water. These measurements were carried out using an freely drifting, autonomous buoy system. Simultaneously, structure borne sound measurements were done. The experimental setup and selected results will be presented. © 2012 Acoustical Society of America.
