Abstract

In Europe the Clinical Device Directive (Council directive 93/42/EEC of 14 June 1993 concerning clinical devices) requires conformity of actual characteristics of clinical devices with manufacturers' specifications. Therefore we developed a water bath for simultaneous calibration of clinical non-contact (tympanic, ear, forehead) and contact (liquid-inglass, digital) thermometers by comparison with a traceable reference thermometer. The bath is intended for use in hospitals, health and veterinary institutes or calibration laboratories. The developed bath fulfills also the requirements of other world standards and future ISO standard on general requirements for clinical non-contact and contact thermometers.
